Windows 11 deserves credit too for sticking to the course laid out by Windows 10 and building on those foundations in some meaningful ways. While the Go 3 is more or less suited to all of these scenarios, it’s generally less accomplished than you’d want when compared to the obvious alternatives: just getting an iPad or a proper Surface Pro. Or perhaps you’re tempted by an affordable laptop like a Chromebook but can’t bear to separate yourself from Microsoft’s own ecosystem. Maybe you’re after a screen that you can pass around the family for playtime, Netflix and the odd spot of emailing. Maybe you want a super-portable computer to marry with your more static office setup. There are a few reasons why you might be intrigued by a Surface Go 3. Mainly because it hasn’t quite kept pace with its formidable rivals. Whereas past incarnations of this device have shown that’s a sensible proposition for some folks, the latest Go isn’t quite as compelling. A stripped-back alternative to Microsoft’s popular Surface Pro laptop-tablet hybrid, it represents what might happen if Apple turned the iPad into a PC. As such the Surface Go 3 is a good reminder of where its maker has been and the stumbling blocks still in its way.
